Spring is right around the corner and the weather and fishing is warming up. The water temp should hit mid 60's this month and that means Spanish mackerel,Bonito, and Cobia. The spanish and bonito usually show up mid month chasing the schools of glass minnows nearshore. We target schools by watching for the birds working overhead and either troll around the bait or drift through and toss spoons with light spinning tackle. Its fun the whole family can join in, and while we're trolling maybe we'll pick up a bonito. These are fun fun fun to catch although not good to eat even as members of the tuna family.
More important, cobia will begin the spring migration late in the month, the brown bombers start to show when the temps hit high 60's. We always keep a feather jig tipped with a berkley gulp eel on a medium action 7 ft rod with plenty of 40lb braid spooled.
Make your Spring break plans include a trip on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and enjoy your Floridaze!!
