Kings with NO OIL!!! and Tarpon because of OIL - Posted: 05/21/10
Well the kings have shown up and none have any oil attached!! The water has warmed to 79 and the Kings have shown up to play. We are using the duster and cigar minnow combo, the purple skirts seem best in calm water and the pearl color in choppy water. A trolling weight about 2 ozs seems to help when the water is calm and I add a deep plug to the spread on calm days as well.
The tarpon have also appeared in numbers, with 20-22 fish sighted Friday early morning, since I was pompano fishing when I saw them, I had nothing heavier than 8 lb test. The key is that they are here early and I think a lot of other species that typically migrate west this time of year have decided to stay here because of the oil gumming up their natural spawning grounds.
So lets turn this lemon into lemonade and make the most of the opportunity offered....no deposits on trips booked in the next 2 months...come to the Forgotten Coast and enjoy the beautiful water and the plentiful fishery.....
